Football cake

Traditional gala dinner was held as part of the International youth tournament in memory of the first FIFA Vice-President Valentin Granatkin. As usual, everyone was happy to spend some time chatting informally as well as exchanging football souvenirs and discussing the future of the Granatkin Memorial and of the football development in different countries. The dinner ended with a tea party and a huge cake with a tournament logo which was traditionally cut by Russian and Estonian team representatives.

Martin Reim, the Head Coach of National team of Estonia: “I can barely name a coach who wouldn’t like to have a choice of good players”

It’s a pleasure to see good old friends here on the traditional Granatkin Memorial taking place in St. Petersburg. And it’s especially pleasant to congratulate some of the friends with promotion, if such an event happened in their life over the last calendar year.

Year 2016 turned out to be very important and rich on responsible and positive events for sociable and smiling 45-year-old Martin Reim. Past September the distinguished Estonian footballer who holds a record of number of matches played for the National team of Estonia (157 matches!) was given an honor to head this team for the first time. In other words, if earlier Reim was coming to St. Petersburg as a participant of the Granatkin Memorial bringing youth teams of Estonia, then this year he arrived here as an honorable guest of the tournament. Martin is now watching matches from the stands, rather than the side of the pitch.

Nikolai Levnikov, the Presiding Referee of the Granatkin Memorial

“Referees will also have top-ranked four on this tournament”

A well-known football referee, an ex-Chairman of the Referee Committee of Russia, a citizen of St. Petersburg Nikolai Levnikov habitually leads the Referee Board of the XXIX International youth football tournament in memory of the first FIFA Vice-President  Valentin Granatkin, that traditionally takes place in January. Right after the tournament in Saint Petersburg Sports and Concert Complex Levnikov is flying to Astana since he was once again appointed to head the Department of referees and inspectors of the Kazakhstan football federation. He signed a two-year contract for the second time, as he held the same position years back in 2008-2009.

Everything for the fans!

An opening ceremony of the Granatkin Memorial took place in the Peterburgsky SCC. The right of the ceremonial kick-off was given to Eduard Batkin, the best coach of Saint Petersburg who led his female “Avrora” team to the Russian Championship trophy last year. The visitors warmly welcomed young players who were uncovering their national flags during introduction of participants on three giant screens.

New format for the Granatkin Memorial in Saint Petersburg

The organizers revealed details about the upcoming Granatkin Memorial 2017 on a press-conference held in the Media Center of the Saint Petersburg Government (Nevsky prospect, 66, The Bookstore of writers). Boris Vakhrushev, the First Vice-President of the Interregional Union of Football Federations “North-West”, Dmitry Shneider, the Tournament Director, Mikhail Galaktionov, the Youth Russian National team Head Coach and Vladimir Kazachionok, the Youth Saint Petersburg team Head Coach shared their views and expectations.

The press-conference dedicated to the XXIX International Youth Football Tournament commemorating the first FIFA Vice-President Valentin Granatkin will take place in the Media Center of the Saint Petersburg Government (Nevsky prospect, 66, The Bookstore of writers) Monday, December 19th.
The following speakers will be participating:

- Boris Vakhrushev, the First Vice-President of the Interregional Union of Football Federations “North-West”;
- Mikhail Galaktionov, the Youth Russian National team Head Coach;
- Vladimir Kazachionok, the Youth Saint Petersburg team Head Coach;
- Dmitry Shneider, the Tournament Director;

The Granatkin Memorial group stage draw results

The RFU hosted the group stage draw of the XXIX International Youth Football Tournament commemorating the first FIFA Vice-President Valentin Granatkin.
All the teams were divided into four groups as follows:

Group А: Tajikistan, Greece, Bulgaria, Estonia.
Group В: Latvia, Belarus, Russia, India.
Group С: Lithuania, Azerbaijan, Slovakia, Kazakhstan.
Group D: Moldova, Slovenia, Saint Petersburg, Iran.

And here we meet again in the Peterburgsky SCC!

The traditional International Youth Football Tournament commemorating the first FIFA Vice-President Valentin Granatkin will be held January 8-21, 2017.

The upcoming Memorial will see teams representing Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Estonia, Greece, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Slovakia, Slovenia, Tajikistan, Russia and Saint Petersburg.
